Cocaine Detox

The fallout when a person stops using cocaine can be extremely unpleasant, people often experience some horrible physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms, and this is one of the main factors in why cocaine is so addictive; because people will take the drug again to try and relieve the symptoms, thus overcoming a cocaine addiction can be very difficult both emotionally and physically.

Some of the symptoms of cocaine withdrawal include a drop in mood, heightened anxiety, low motivation and optimism and a strong craving for more cocaine.

Individuals may also suffer from fatigue, paranoia or suspicion, lack of enjoyment, irritability and trouble sleeping.

Unfortunately, despite the severity of these symptoms and the negative long term impact they may have, there is not currently a formal detox procedure to help people undergo cocaine withdrawal.

What will usually be offered is a cocktail of medications that are intended to help reduce some of the symptoms to help individuals feel physically and psychologically strong enough to seek further, long term help such as addiction counselling and therapy.

However for many people it can take a significant amount of time managing their withdrawal symptoms before they are ready to seek help, however by combining medications for the physical effects, and offering therapy for the psychological issues, this greatly increases the likelihood of an individual achieving long term recovery.
